what we love

It is hard to describe living here in Europe. there really is a lot of commonality with the US. there are however some really super differences. we regularly enjoy going to the ice cafe in a nearby town for Italian stile ice cream. our motto is we are only going to be here for a short amount of time so we should try and get ice cream as much as possible. i bet we go 2 or 3 times a week. when we did the math it seemed we would pay more per month for ice cream than for rent.

we also love the place we rented. it has some European personality. the upstairs bedrooms and bath have a sloping celling because of the roof and in two of the rooms there is a window in the roof that you can open and look out. it is great to let in cool air and get the light of the moon at night. this might seem like a silly thing but the windows here are super. they are very energy efficient and can be swung out like a door or opened up a few inches by tilting them out. each window also has a very tight fitting shutter that can be rolled up and out of sight or rolled down to completely bock out the light, they are called rouladians.

the locals love to walk and ride bikes. there are walking trails all over and many paved bike trails.

even better than walking or biking is eating. what is not to like about sweet rolls and sausage for breakfast. there is a nice bakery nearby that has great rolls and bread. almost every meal we have had when we eat out has been outstanding. we especially like spatzel with cheese and schnitzel with fries.

now for what we would like to change. the sink in the kitchen is very small and there is no garbage disposal. the oven will barely hold a cookie sheet and if you like the wife's cookies you know how important that is.

we would not trade it for anything. we are having a super time.
