Rome and the crossing of the Alps

We went to Rome right after Christmas and had a very fun time. We were able to see almost everything since we were there for a week. We were able to rent an apartment near the Vatican and used the subway and city buses to get around. it sounds funny to say it but we had the most fun going to the Trevi fountain and having pizza and ice cream. We also went up to the top of the dome in Saint Peters, and that was very breathtaking.

One of the strangest things was a crypt where a lot of Monks bones are. we could not take pictures but trust me, if you thought that decorating with human bones was tacky you were right. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capuchin_Crypt i have to admit that using shoulder blades to make birds is pretty inventive.

New years eve in Rome is unbelievable, it is probably like a Greek riot without the anger.

On the day we were to fly back to Germany the fog rolled in and our flight was cancelled. to make a long, but good story shorter, we traveled home on the train and even got a sleeper car to take us over the Alps.
