our first few days were difficult with the jet lag and no car. we wanted to begin seeing the sights so on the second day we took a cab to a castle ruin, the castle is called Nanstein and is not very big but for our first one it was very fun. we explored for an hour or so and enjoyed the views from the turrets. one thing we have learned about castle exploring is that they are all on hills and many require a bit of a walk. after exploring we walked down to a restaurant for our first German meal. we ate outside under some huge umbrellas, common to many German restaurants. since we only knew a few German words most of us had schnitzel but there was one order of potato soup.
